CAIRO (Reuters) – The US Navy’s Fifth Fleet stated on Saturday that the guided-missile cruiser USS Monterey (CG 61) seized a bootleg cargo of weapons from a stateless dhow in worldwide water of the North Arabian Sea on Could 6-7.
“The cache of weapons included dozens of superior Russian-made anti-tank guided missiles, hundreds of Chinese language Kind 56 assault rifles, and a whole lot of PKM machine weapons, sniper rifles and rocket-propelled grenades launchers. Different weapon parts included superior optical sights, “the Bahrain-based Fleet stated in a press release.
It added that the materiel is in US custody awaiting ultimate disposition, whereas the unique supply and supposed vacation spot of the materiel is beneath investigation.
“In spite of everything illicit cargo was eliminated, the dhow was assessed for seaworthiness, and after questioning, its crew was offered meals and water earlier than being launched,” the assertion stated.
