DMX’s Ex-Spouse Reveals His Final Phrases to Her a Week Earlier than His Loss of life: ‘He Was By no means Afraid of Passing On’

The rapper’s ex-wife Tashera Simmons opens up about his dying, legacy and last interview on the newest episode of the PEOPLE Every Day podcast with host Janine Rubenstein.

“I’m torn. Our kids are struggling and attempting to get to over that ‘not sufficient time with their dad’ factor; it is a robust time,” she says. “On the identical time … I used to assume that this was insensitive to say, however I do consider he’s in a greater place, simply due to the phrases he left me with. DMX (born Earl Simmons) died April 9 at at White Plains Hospital in New York, one week after suffering a heart attack. He was 50. The three-time Grammy Award nominee’s final interview is airing in two elements on TV One’s Uncensored, the primary of which aired Sunday.

“I did not know that it was filmed,” Tashera, 50, says. “Once they known as me, I did not notice that this was the final interview that he’d executed. And the issues that he talked about in it had been so highly effective to them, tales that he spoke about of myself and him that I did not even bear in mind, actually, till… They actually needed to replay it.”

Tashera and DMX had been married from 1999 to 2014, and so they shared sons Xavier, 28, Tacoma, 21, Sean, 18, and daughter Reward, 16. The couple met at 11 years outdated, when she witnessed him steal a lady’s purse with the assistance of his canine. “Good lady beloved dangerous boy,” she says.
